13-year-old Lagos swimmer Demilade Akanbi shines with 3 gold medals at National Youth Games

In a dazzling display of talent and determination, 13-year-old Demilade Akanbi, a young swimmer from Lagos state, has taken the National Youth Games in Asaba by storm. 

With three gold medals under her belt, she has firmly established herself as one of the most outstanding athletes of the event.

Demilade, a Children International School Lagos student, proved her mettle in the swimming events, showcasing her exceptional skills and dedication to the sport. 

Her remarkable achievements include securing gold medals in the 50m backstroke, 100m butterfly, and the 4x50m mixed medley relay.

The young athlete’s exceptional performance has earned her recognition and sparked hopes of a promising future as a Nigerian Olympian. 

Demilade expressed her aspirations, saying, “I will keep improving on my talent; my dream is to make it to the Olympics and also break records.”

Lagos State came second at the National Youth Games with 61 medals, comprising 21 gold, 19 silver and 21 bronze.

Team Delta bagged 51 gold, 34 silver, and 31 bronze medals to emerge winners, while Edo state came third with 21 gold, 15 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
