Gabon national team head coach Thierry Mouyouma has expressed confidence that his side is fully prepared for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff encounter against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, reports Completesports.com.
The Panthers, who are seeking to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in their history, have shown strong form throughout the qualifying campaign—registering just one defeat in 10 matches.
While looking ahead to the high-stakes clash, Mouyouma, in a post on social media, said that his team is focused and motivated to continue their impressive run and make history for Gabonese football.
“In a few days, my team and I will face a major African footballing nation: Nigeria,” he wrote on his X account.
“This playoff match represents a turning point for us, as it could pave our way to the World Cup.
“As I said recently. We have a dream: to go to the World Cup. And that dream still exists. We will do everything in our power to achieve it.
“Because the most important thing is not just to dream big, but to give ourselves the ability to make it happen.
“So let’s stay focused for this Thursday, November 13, during the Gabon vs. Nigeria match.
“And if we win, we will face the winners of the DRC-Cameroon match. To you, dear Gabonese people, your support is our fuel. Let’s keep believing.”
The coach praised the unity and determination within his squad, emphasising that Gabon’s recent performances have built belief that they can compete with Africa’s elite sides, including the three-time African champions, Nigeria.
The Panthers will rely on key stars such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Denis Bouanga, and Mario Lemina to lead the charge as they aim to upset the Super Eagles and book their place at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The upcoming fixture promises to be one of the most anticipated ties in the African playoffs, with both nations determined to secure a spot on football’s biggest stage.
