Amid the ongoing disarray within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), allegedly caused by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to weaken its effectiveness ahead of the 2027 general elections, Felix Morka, APC National Publicity Secretary, has categorically stated that the party is not threatened by the opposition, noting that it did not live up to expectations in the last election.
In an interview on Channels Television on Sunday evening, Morka strongly rejected the perception that his party is responsible for the chaos not only in the ADC but also in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).
He said, “We’re doing no such thing. We have no reason to do that. Seun, you are a veteran journalist, and no one monitors elections better than you do.”
Backing his claim that the ADC cannot match up with the APC come 2027, Morka noted that in the recent elections in Anambra State and the council election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the ADC performed abysmally, asserting that the opposition party will not make any impact in the next election.
He further claimed that the ADC has not made any meaningful impact on the ballot and that the party has struggled to win an elective office since 2023.
He, therefore, expressed confidence that the APC will continue to remain dominant across various elective positions and will maintain the momentum from the last general election.
“We had the by-elections recently in the country. The ADC was a no-show. They didn’t even perform this much because they didn’t perform at all. We’ve had several constituency elections since the 2023 election. The ADC, again, did not register any impact whatsoever,” he stated.
“Now, why would we be afraid when we have consistently won elections since 2023? All of the elections that have been conducted in this country, at whatever level, or even in the FCT, we won brilliantly.
“What exactly do we have to fear? Fear a party that is a non-starter, a party that is actually almost as good as non-existent? We have nothing to fear about the ADC,” he declared.
While acknowledging the composition of the ADC as key players in the country’s politics, he described such a gathering as a group without impact.
He said, “You see, they are just filled with this self-appointed importance,” before referencing prominent figures, including Rotimi Amaechi.
“But all of them put together, individually, they look like they are superstars. But when they come together, they are twinkle, twinkle little stars. They are making no impact whatsoever.”
