Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has categorically dismissed fears that the party will be plunged into crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections, news.ng reports.

Morka, while addressing concerns surrounding the party’s screening processes, said it is normal for aspirants to disagree with some of the laid-down rules, noting that such should not be considered disunity within the party.

“There is no spectre of implosion in the APC. What you’re describing is really not unusual. It’s the normal thing you see around elections,” he said on Arise Television on Thursday.

On the party’s use of consensus — a model for selecting candidates — the APC publicist clarified that the process is within the ambit of the Electoral Act, saying that “the consensus model has an in-built control mechanism.”

“For example, where there are two or three aspirants vying for a position, and the consensus process settles for one of those three individuals. Now, it takes the agreement of the other two for consensus to work. That is mandated in the Electoral Act itself,” he explained.

But in terms of disagreement among the candidates, Morka noted, “When that is not done, against the objection of one of those people, the Electoral Act provides that you default into direct primaries. So, it’s not an issue.”

Addressing the issue of disqualification, Morka insisted that such steps are taken within the guidelines of the party’s constitution.

“The disqualification itself — instead of disqualifying the contestants, that disqualification itself is also a constitutional question. To contest for any office in the election at primaries, you must be a financial member of the party,” he said.
