According to reports, Alexis Beka, who plays for French top division club OGC Nice, is reported to have threatened to jump off the Magnan Viaduct in Nice. The incident is said to have been linked to a recent romantic break-up.
According to reports, the French Ligue 1 club has sent a team of firemen, police officers and a psychologist to the scene to try and help Beka.
It is reported that Beka was standing on the 100-metre-high viaduct, which is situated on the northwest side of the city’s A8 motorway.
Meanwhile, OGC Nice have cancelled their press conference scheduled for Friday and are engaging in ‘crisis talks’ at the club’s premises.
On Sunday, OGC Nice will host the leaders Brest in their home game at the Allianz Riviera.
On Friday, their manager Eric Roy said in a press conference: ‘On behalf of the club, I would like to express my solidarity with Nice in light of recent events. I wish them the best alongside praying for them.”
In 2022, Beka joined Nice on a one-year contract for an initial fee of 12 million euros, but he has not made a single appearance this season.
The viaduct, which stands at about 100 meters, is causing a traffic jam on the main A8 highway.
