Matthew Abo, commissioner of information, culture, and tourism, has been released by the Benue State Government.
Mr Abo was abducted during a violent break-in at his residence in Zaki-biam on Sunday, 24th September 2023. The news of Mr Abo’s release has sent shockwaves through the community.
According to a source nearby the family, Mr Abo was returned at about 1:00 am early morning.
Bringing an end to the terrible incident. However, details on whether a ransom was paid remain a mystery. A close source of the family declined to comment on this crucial aspect.
In an official statement, Chief Press Secretary to the Benue Governor, Mr. Tersoo, gave details on the commissioner’s activities after he was released. “Mr. Abo has returned to his family,” says Tersoo. “He has been taken to Sankera in Benue State, which is the same place he was taken from.”
Governor Alia issued a statement confirming that no ransom was paid in exchange for Mr Abo’s freedom. Instead, Governor Alia credited the rescue of Mr Abo to the tireless efforts of security operatives acting on the governor’s directives. These brave men put pressure on the criminals and secured Mr Abo’s release.
Governor Alia cautioned criminals to hide out of his state that their presence would not be condoned. The governor thanked security operatives for their tireless efforts in securing Mr Abo’s safe return.
The governor also encouraged security personnel to continue their activities relentlessly to ensure the release of all remaining in captivity, reinforcing his determination to protect the security and prosperity of the state.
