Deborah Abiodun, who serves as a midfielder for the Super Falcons, has expressed her happiness following her nomination for the CAF Young Player of the Year Award.
NEWSNG sourced that the 20-year-old is one of three Nigerians nominated for the award for players under the age of 21 together with Opeyemi Ajakaye and Oluwatosin Demehin.
Ten Falcons players were nominated in various categories for the CAF Awards 2023, which were announced by the Confederation of African Football on Tuesday.
The Falcons had an incredible year, reaching the Women’s World Cup round of 16 in Australia and New Zealand and coming dangerously close to making it to the quarterfinals before losing to England on penalties.
It was a contentious red card for Abiodun during the match with the Lionesses.
With five goals for the Pittsburg Panthers so far this season, the midfielder is having a fantastic season.
“Thrilled to be nominated for CAF Young Player of the Year!” Abiodun wrote on her X account in response to her nomination.
“This journey wouldn’t be the same without the incredible support from coaches, teammates, friends, family and fans. Your belief in me keeps me pushing boundaries. Let’s continue this adventure together!”
On December 11 in Marrakech, Morocco, the crème de la crème players in African football will grace the Awards Gala.
