Nigerian Navy Forces in Badagry (FOB Badagry) intercepted a suspected smuggling syndicate. They recovered 27 bags of Cannabis sativa, valued at approximately N35 million, from a boat offloading near Pako Beach, Ajido, in the FOB Area of Operations.
This resulted from an intelligence-led tip-off received at approximately 19:00 a.m. on Friday, 2023. The Narcotics Commander and the Area Commander of Seme Area Command were present at the handover ceremony for the exhibits to the NDLEA.
The Base Quick Response Team (BOT) under the leadership of the Base Operations Officer (BOLO) and Base Intelligence Officer (BIO) immediately went to the crime scene to investigate and possibly arrest the smugglers who had abandoned the narcotics and escaped.
Further search took place in nearby communities but no other illegal drugs or suspects of illegal drug sales were found.
The NDLEA said that investigations are ongoing in collaboration with other security agencies, with a view to identifying, apprehending and prosecuting a drug trafficking syndicate in the near future.
The Commander of Narcotics (CNM) received the illegal products from the Area Commander (Area Commander) of Seme Area Command (Dines Fingere Owen).
Owen thanked Adams-Aliu for the successful interception of the products and said the NDLEA will continue to work with sister agencies and organisations to promote the message against drugs. “This is one of the reasons why the NDLEA launched the WADA (War Against Drugs Abuse) initiative,” he added.
