Garba Shehu, a former spokesperson for former President Muhammadu Buhari has lampooned an ex-attorney general and minister of justice, Mohammed Adoke, saying the ex-AGF lacks the moral character to declare anyone as a corrupt person in Nigeria.
Mr Shehu, in a statement signed and shared with journalists on Sunday, also issued a strong warning to Mr Adoke not to brand his former boss, Mr Buhari, a corrupt person.
According to the statement, Mr Shehu emphasises that the former AFG is not in a position to discuss national anti-corruption issues due to the large backlog of corruption cases handled by his government as AGF from 2010 to 2015.
This, Mr Shehu said, had mandated the President Buhari administration to come on a rescue mission and effectively saved Nigeria from corrupt undertones that were planted to expose its economy to imminent collapse.
“Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Mohammed Adokie has been enjoying a spotlight, masquerading as an anti-corruption character in a skit for which he is ill-suited. He neither has the track record nor the moral standing to accuse anyone of corruption, not least the former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The fact that this character is a free man, walking away from the industrial corruption their administration foisted on the 200 million-plus Nigerians is an Eighth Wonder. So vast was its scale, it is today a subject of international scrutiny. That should be a script for a Nollywood/Kannywood blockbuster all by itself.” Mr Shehu said.
Mr Adoke was AGF under the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan. According to anti-corruption experts, his term was marked by anomalies and mismanagement of corruption cases involving renowned Nigerians.
Mr Shehu’s statement comes on the heels of a previous comment by the former AGF describing the administration of the immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari, as incompetent and corrupt.
According to a Dailypost Daily report on Saturday, Mr Adoke revealed this in an interview with Adesua Giwa-Osagie while commenting on the corruption allegations levelled against him and former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki by the previous administration.
Mr Adoke is currently facing multiple charges of corruption at several courts in Abuja Nigeria.
He listed a number of corruption issues, such as Process and industrial Developments (P&ID) and the contentious Paris Club funding, that the former AGF had improperly handled while in office.
He claimed that Mr Adoke was a byproduct of the regime that established the wicked foundation and the rulings that came about as a result of the aforementioned cases.
Additionally, Mr Shehu described the former AGF as a walking free man from the widespread corruption that his administration had imposed on more than 200 million Nigerians.
He said the President Buhari administration had introduced new legislation which led to major recoveries across the world from high persons suspected to be corrupt.
“Stolen monies were repatriated from abroad, and they were judiciously deployed in infrastructure development. High-profile convictions were recorded in unprecedented numbers, with enhanced percentages over and above the records in existence.
He said that the African Union had selected the former President as its African Continental Anti-Corruption Champion as a result of his former boss’s efforts, earning him notoriety on a global scale.
He also stated that the former president and his government have received other honours from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Corruption, among others.
“All Nigerians by right can say whatever they want of the Buhari administration. No one is offended by their actions, right or wrong.
“But when you come out with innuendos of corruption written all over your face and say that you want to moralise and pontificate, Nigerians in different walks of life will have problems with that.
“Mr Adokie, your record in office makes you the wrong character for this famous skit.
