Semi Ajayi was named Man of the Match following Nigeria’s hard-fought 2–1 victory over Tanzania in Fès on Tuesday night.
The centre-back opened the scoring in the 36th minute, rising to meet a pinpoint cross from Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi. It was Ajayi’s second international goal for the three-time African champions, and he also delivered a commanding defensive performance throughout the contest.
Ademola Lookman sealed the win for the Super Eagles in the 52nd minute, finishing off another brilliant assist from Iwobi to restore Nigeria’s lead after Tanzania had briefly equalised.
The 32-year-old Ajayi has now made 45 appearances for the Super Eagles and continues to play a key role in Eric Chelle’s defensive setup.
Semi Ajayi is valued for his defensive consistency, aerial strength, and leadership qualities. For Nigeria, he has been a cornerstone in high-stakes matches, combining defensive discipline with the occasional crucial goal.
At the club level, the experienced and lanky defender brings stability to the backline, often playing key roles in both domestic and continental competitions.
Nigeria will next face Tunisia in their second Group C match on Saturday, aiming to maintain momentum in their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
