Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman delivered standout performances as Nigeria’s Super Eagles cruised into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique on Monday night.
The three-time African champions dominated the Round of 16 encounter from start to finish, displaying clinical attacking play and defensive control to comfortably dispatch their Southern African opponents.
Nigeria seized control before the break with two quick first-half goals. Lookman opened the scoring before Osimhen doubled the advantage minutes later, leaving Mozambique struggling to cope with Nigeria’s pace and movement in attack.
Osimhen struck again shortly after the restart to put the contest beyond doubt, taking his tally for the match to two and underlining his growing influence at the tournament.
Akor Adams, who had earlier provided assists for two of Nigeria’s goals, capped an impressive team performance by netting the fourth, completing a dominant night for the Super Eagles.
The win also delivered Nigeria’s first clean sheet of the tournament, a significant boost for head coach Eric Chelle as his side continues to grow in confidence.
Nigeria will now face either Algeria or DR Congo in the quarter-finals in Marrakech on Saturday. The two sides meet on Tuesday to determine the Super Eagles’ next opponent.
