In their second group encounter in the AfroBasket 2025 qualifications, Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, the D’Tigers, dominated defending champions Tunisia, putting on a spectacular display.

The Nigerian team, keen to recover from recent setbacks, dominated both ends of the court and silenced the defending champs with a combination of strong defence and powerful offence.

The D’Tigers, who dominated the first quarter with a balanced scoring effort, forced turnovers and converted fast-break points.

Nigeria extended their lead in the last quarter, leaving Tunisia, which is renowned for its muscular style and championship history, chasing the game.

The victory over Tunisia reaffirms Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s basketball powerhouses and significantly strengthens its qualification effort.

In addition to improving their group ranking, the D’Tigers’ triumph served as a stark message to any opponents in the future.

The Nigerian squad defeated their North African opponents in the first, second, and third quarters. The D’Tigers defeated Tunisia 29 points to 16 in the first quarter and 19–17 in the second.

The D’Tigers won 20–14 in the third quarter as well, and 19–19 at the end of the fourth. Nigeria will return to action against Cameroon on Sunday, August 17.
