Senegal delivered a commanding performance to end Nigeria’s AfroBasket 2025 campaign, thrashing D’Tigers to book their place in the semi-finals of the continental championship.

The Lions showed their superiority from the tip-off, racing into an early lead with relentless defensive pressure and sharp three-point shooting that left Nigeria struggling to keep pace. By halftime, Senegal had established a double-digit advantage and never looked back.

Despite flashes of resistance from D’Tigers, including a strong third-quarter rally, Senegal’s physicality and bench depth proved decisive. The West African giants controlled rebounds, forced turnovers, and punished Nigeria with fast breaks.

Senegal’s players emerged as the standout performers, dropping a game-high number of points while dictating play at both ends of the floor. The victory underlines Senegal’s growing status as one of the tournament favourites, with their eyes now firmly set on clinching the AfroBasket crown.

For Nigeria, the heavy defeat marks another disappointing outing at the continental level, raising questions about team preparation and consistency. D’Tigers, who have been continental champions in the past, will now have to regroup and refocus for future competitions.

They were unable to follow in the footsteps of their female counterparts, D’Tigress, who just a few weeks ago won the Women’s AfroBasket title in Côte d’Ivoire for the fifth time in a row.
