Less than a year after significant investment in AI startup, Inflection AI, Microsoft has hired Mustafa Suleyman and Karén Simonyan, along with a number of their colleagues.
Suleyman who also co-founded DeepMind confirmed the move job update on his verified X handle.
Inflection AI was launched in 2022 by Reid Hoffman and Suleyman, the co-founders of LinkedIn, to create artificial intelligence (AI) systems capable of having open-ended conversations, responding to queries, and helping with a range of activities.
Hoffman predicted that there would be a “good future upside” and that all investors in Inflection AI “will have a good outcome today.” According to Hoffman, the CEO position at Inflection AI will be assumed by Sean White, a co-founder of Braingels.
DeepMind launched in 2010 was also acquired by Google in 2014 to bolster its own AI efforts.
News.ng understands that Suleyman will lead the recently established Microsoft AI branch in addition to “several members” of their team, or “most of the staff.”
On Thursday, Microsoft is anticipated to showcase its most recent AI developments for consumers during an event centred around Windows, Surface, and Microsoft Copilot.
Microsoft is no stranger to Inflection AI. Less than a year ago, the cloud behemoth led a $1.3 billion fundraising round for the business.
At the time of investment, Inflection AI claimed to be building the largest AI cluster in the world with 22,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs.
According to a tweet he posted, Suleyman will also oversee AI research and products for Copilot, Bing, and Edge.
In a blog post, Nadella stated, “Several members of the Inflection team have chosen to join Mustafa and Karen at Microsoft.”
“They include some of the most accomplished AI engineers, researchers, and builders in the world.
They have designed, led, launched, and co-authored many of the most important contributions in advancing AI over the last five years.”
