Airtel Africa Plc, one of Africa’s leading telecommunications and mobile money service providers, on Tuesday announced significant changes to its board of directors, with Senior Independent Non-Executive Director Andrew Green set to retire.
Green informed the board of his intention to step down following the company’s board meeting on January 29, 2026, bringing an end to his tenure, which began in October 2021.
During his time with the pan-African telecoms giant — which operates in 14 countries across the continent — Green chaired the Remuneration Committee and served on the Nominations Committee.
Upon his retirement, Tsega Gebreyes will assume the role of Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, while Cynthia Gordon will take over as Chair of the Remuneration Committee and join the Nominations Committee. Gebreyes will continue her membership on the Remuneration Committee.
In a statement communicated to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chair of Airtel Africa, praised Green’s contributions to the company.
“On behalf of the Board and the entire organisation, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for Andy’s exemplary service and steadfast dedication throughout his tenure,” Mittal said. “His strategic vision, deep knowledge of the telecoms industry, professional integrity and commitment to excellence have made a profound and lasting impact on Airtel Africa.”
The board extended its best wishes to Green for his future endeavours.
The company noted that no matters requiring disclosure under UKLR 6.4.6 are associated with these changes.
