Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim has admitted that Everton fully deserved their 1–0 victory at Old Trafford, even though the visitors played more than an hour with 10 men.
Everton were reduced to 10 men after just 13 minutes when Idrissa Gueye was shown a straight red card for slapping his teammate Michael Keane during a heated exchange. But despite the setback, Sean Dyche’s side stunned the home crowd by taking the lead in the 29th minute through a brilliant strike from Kieran Dewsbury-Hall.
United dominated possession and had a numerical advantage for 61 minutes, yet failed to break through a resilient Everton defence. The Red Devils lacked a cutting edge in the final third and ultimately slumped to a frustrating defeat in front of their supporters.
The loss leaves United in 10th place on 18 points—level with Everton, who now sit one spot below them in 11th.
Speaking after the match, Amorim told NBC Sports that Everton was the better team on the night, praising their organisation, determination, and efficiency despite being a man down. He described the result as disappointing but admitted United did not do enough to earn even a point.
“They were the better team with 11 players or 10. I felt since the first minute that we were not there with the same intensity, so they deserved the win.”
On what he felt was missing, Amorim said: “The way we faced the game. The other team helped us with a send-off. What we do in every single moment of the game if they have 10 — let’s push the opponent to the final third, to be near any transition, really to be focused on the game.”
On whether the loss felt like a big step backwards, he added: “Yes, especially in the way we played the game. Forget about the results. The result is also really bad, but I’m more concerned with the feeling I had during the game.”
