Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is reportedly in discussions for a blockbuster return to the ring, with plans underway for a mega fight in 2026.

The British-Nigerian star has not fought since September 2024, when he suffered a fifth-round stoppage defeat to then-IBF champion Daniel Dubois — a setback that halted a strong comeback run, which included knockout victories over Otto Wallin, Francis Ngannou, and Robert Helenius.

After undergoing minor elbow surgery and spending several months recovering, Joshua is now gearing up for a return to training, with a renewed focus on reclaiming his place at the top of the heavyweight division.

Speaking to iFL TV, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that discussions are ongoing for a high-profile bout, with a potential clash against Tyson Fury still firmly “on the cards” for mid-next year — though Joshua is expected to take a tune-up fight first.

Hearn said, “I think February is the date we’re moving towards now. In Saudi Arabia, in Ghana, or in London. I’ll be honest with you, it depends on what happens with the Tyson Fury fight because we know that His Excellency is discussing that fight with us.

“Now we have no knowledge of how he’s getting on with Tyson Fury. And this is how he works; he’ll do our deal and then try and do a deal with Tyson Fury or vice versa. So for us, we haven’t done our deal yet to fight Tyson Fury, but we are discussing it … we’re in.”

The anticipated showdown between Joshua and Fury has long been one of boxing’s most sought-after matchups, and if finalised, it could become one of the biggest fights in heavyweight history — reigniting British boxing’s most intense rivalry.
