The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a clarification regarding reports suggesting that Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), was sacked or dropped as the Chairman of the Edo Gubernatorial Primary Election Committee.
The APC, during a press briefing on Thursday by its spokesman, Felix Morka, emphasized that Governor Uzodimma was neither “sacked” nor “dropped.”
Morka stated that Governor Uzodimma was unable to lead the completion of the Edo State Gubernatorial Primary Election Process due to a prior commitment to attend and present a report at the National Economic Council meeting on February 22, 2024.
”Consequently, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, who served as the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, willingly assumed the role of Chairman to complete the primary election process,” he said.
He said the clarification became necessary to dispel any misconceptions about Governor Uzodimma’s status in the exercise and provide accurate information about the situation.
Some media reports had suggested that the ruling party sacked the Imo state governor after three different candidates emerged in the APC governorship primary election in Edo state.
