In an attempt to catch up to competitors that are embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI) cutting-edge technology faster than Apple, the company has launched “Apple Intelligence.”
Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, while confirming the development confirmed that the new AI features for its highly sought-after iPhones were developed in partnership with OpenAI.
After Microsoft and Google released devices one after the other in quick succession, Apple has been under pressure for months to convince many who have doubted its AI approach.
However, Chief Executive Tim Cook stated that this most recent action will “take the experience of Apple products to new heights” when he launched the yearly Worldwide Developers Conference at the tech giant’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, a Silicon Valley metropolis.
Newsng understands that through the cooperation, the OpenAI system’s generative AI capabilities will be made available to Apple’s digital assistant, Siri.
Since its release more than a decade ago, GPT-4o, the newest assistant from OpenAI, has surpassed Siri as a useful function, making it unnecessary.
OpenAI was “very happy to be partnering with Apple to integrate chatgpt into their devices later this year! think you will really like it,” posted the company’s chief Sam Altman on social media.
The system “puts powerful generative models right at the core of your iPhone, iPad and Mac,” said Federighi.
According to Apple, the AI-enhanced Siri voice assistant will also get an update, showing up as a pulsating light on the edge of your home screen.
Additionally, iPhone users will be able to access that feature for free as part of the iOS 18 upgrade that will be released later this year.
Federighi added that later this year, ChatGPT will be integrated with operating system models as part of the AI improvements.
We earlier reported that Apple has been working on processors that would enable artificial intelligence applications to function in data centres.
