With the Indian government’s move to cut import levies on cell phones from 20% to 15%, Apple has lowered the pricing of its iPhone models in India by 3% to 4%.
As per the reports from TechCrunch, for iPhone models like the 13, 14, and 15, the price reductions start at ₹300 (about $3.60), and they go up to ₹6,000 (around $72) for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
Newsng gathered that Apple had reduced the cost of its current-generation Pro models in India for the first time.
Further to the price reduction, there appears to be a slowdown in Chinese demand for iPhones. Apple’s smartphone shipments to China fell 6.7% in the quarter that ended in June compared to the same period last year, according to data released this week by market research firm Canalys.
Economic experts said that the lower import taxes are a component of India’s larger financial plan to increase domestic production and further integrate the country into the world’s electronics supply chain.
The Indian government hopes to increase accessibility to high-end cell phones, such as the iPhone, by reducing their price for a wider range of people.
This further strengthens Apple’s continuous efforts to increase its market share in India, which has been more crucial as growth in more developed markets like China has stalled.
In India, iPhones are still pricey despite the decrease in cost. For instance, the most affordable iPhone 15 Pro model in India costs $1,550, while the US version costs $999.
India has become one of Apple’s most important markets, and the corporation has increased the size of its production base there dramatically.
We earlier reported that Starting in September, Microsoft has announced that its employees in China will only be permitted to use their iPhones for work-related purposes.
