Sporting CP and Arsenal have reportedly reached a “total verbal agreement” for the prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres, putting Arsenal on the verge of completing a significant summer transfer.
The eagerly awaited transfer will send the 27-year-old Swedish international to the Emirates Stadium, fulfilling Arsenal’s long-standing need for a specialised No. 9.
Sporting CP has reportedly accepted Arsenal’s most recent bid, which is estimated to be approximately €63.5 million (£55 million) up front, according to several reports, including those from Sportstar and Goal.com.
A further €10 million (£8.7 million) in performance-based add-ons is also anticipated to be paid by Arsenal, bringing the total package to roughly €73.5 million (£63.5 million). The player’s agent reportedly agreed to lower his commission in order to close the deal, which was a significant move in the discussions.
‘Viktor Gyökeres to Arsenal, here we go! A verbal agreement is in place between all parties involved.
‘‘Sporting accepted the last bid from Arsenal for €63.5m plus €10m; agent will reduce his commission.
Gyökeres will sign a five-year deal at #AFC. He ONLY wanted Arsenal,’’ transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote on his official X page confirming the latest development.
Weeks of rigorous negotiations, especially about the structure and viability of the add-on clauses, culminated in the agreement between Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon.
According to reports, Gyokeres’ strong desire to join Arsenal has been a deciding factor despite late interest from other clubs, including Manchester United. The player has often stated that he prefers a move to North London.
