Arsenal have announced a major shake-up at the top of the club as Tim Lewis, a key figure in the boardroom, has stepped down from his role. The departure, confirmed on Wednesday, signals the start of what insiders are calling a “new era” for the North London side.
Lewis, a longtime adviser to the Kroenke family and one of the most influential voices in the Emirates boardroom, was appointed in 2020 to provide oversight during the club’s transition to full ownership under Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE).
During his tenure, he played a critical role in financial restructuring, governance, and steering the club through the turbulent pandemic years.
While Arsenal did not provide a detailed explanation for his exit, the move comes amid a broader revamp of the club’s leadership structure. Sources close to the matter suggest the Kroenkes are looking to modernise board operations and expand global commercial opportunities, reflecting the club’s growing ambitions both on and off the pitch.
In a statement, the club said:
“We thank Tim Lewis for his service and dedication to Arsenal during a transformative period. His guidance has been invaluable in stabilising and positioning the club for future success.”
Arsenal are embarking on a “new era,” with managing director Richard Garlick taking over as the club’s new CEO, while co-chair Josh Kroenke continues to play an increasingly significant role.
Josh, the son of Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke, told the club’s website:
“We are delighted to promote Rich (Richard Garlick) to CEO after an incredibly successful period as Managing Director of Arsenal.
At this moment, we would like to thank Tim for his continued dedication and commitment to Arsenal during a period of transformational change for the club.
He has played a pivotal role and ensured we are in a strong position to continue delivering our strategy and pursuing our ambition to win major trophies.
In keeping with our desire to always move forward, we will strengthen our Board with some exciting additions who will bring vast experience to the club across a wide range of professions.
This group know and love Arsenal, and will bring different skills and expertise while injecting fresh thinking and energy to help us achieve our ambitions.”
