Top-flight English Premier League (EPL) club Arsenal FC has responded after Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Just five days after his contract expired at the Emirates, the 32-year-old former Arsenal player was officially charged.

In a brief statement issued to the BBC, the club said: “The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case.”

Following a three-year investigation by Scotland Yard, Partey—who played for five seasons in north London—is accused of assaulting three women between 2021 and 2022.

According to a statement from his attorney, Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman & Rose, Partey has “fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their investigation” and “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

The charges, confirmed by the Metropolitan Police, relate to alleged incidents involving three different women during the 2021–2022 period.

Partey, now a free agent following the expiration of his Arsenal contract, is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.
