Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta has highlighted the main areas in which his squad has to improve following Wednesday’s 3-1 Carabao Cup loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Arteta was present when Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen, Ben Whites (own goal), and West Ham eliminated Arsenal from the Carabao Cup.
Against David Moyes’ team, the former assistant manager of Manchester City did not start with players like Declan Rice and William Saliba.
At his post-match press conference, Arteta responded to questions about whether the absence of Saliba and Rice had a significant effect on Arsenal’s team. “Obviously, different players bring different things to the table, but it’s about a lot of simple things that we did not do well at all today,” Arteta said.
“Some of them were competing, some were duels, 50-50s, but we had a lot of giveaways we have in areas that we didn’t allow us to be a threat in the final third and that’s something we have to improve dramatically from today.”
Arsenal’s next game is an away Premier League match against Newcastle United this weekend.
