The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says it will be challenging the ‘back-to-work’ order issued by the National Industrial Court (NIC).
Justice Polycarp Hamman of the NIC issued an interlocutory order on Wednesday, restraining ASUU from continuing with the ongoing strike action.
In a statement by the chairman of Lagos Zone of ASUU, Adelaja Odukoya, the union said it would appeal the order.
“Our lawyer is filing an appeal and stay of execution of the judgment. Members should remain resolute and strong. A people united can never be defeated. Solidarity without compromise,” Odukoya said.
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) is a counsel to ASUU.
The ongoing ASUU strike has led to the closure of tertiary institutions in Nigeria since February 14.
Efforts by the federal government to get the union to call off the strike have been largely unsuccessful.
