Tony D’Amico, Atalanta’s sporting director, expressed his dissatisfaction with Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman following his unsuccessful transfer to Serie A rivals Inter Milan.

After Atalanta turned down Inter Milan’s €45 million offer, including bonuses, their attempt to sign Ademola Lookman, the 2024 CAF African Player of the Year, fell through.

Lookman submitted a transfer request and accused the club of breaching pledges after La Dea refused to budge over weeks of negotiations. The transfer drama grew more intense when he left Italy to train privately in the UK.

Later, Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi explained that although there was a deal in place to permit Lookman to depart under specific circumstances, any transfer inside Serie A would not be approved.

Atalanta director Tony D’Amico said the team is upset with Lookman and will only make a decision at the end of the summer transfer window. Lookman has since returned to Atalanta for individual training, but he was left out of the squad for last Sunday’s game.

“Lookman is not training with the group, and we are experiencing more and more situations like this,” D’Amico told DAZN via TMW.

“We are sorry for everyone, but right now this is the situation. We’ll make assessments at the end of the transfer window. As of today, there’s disappointment.”
