Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has made clear the team’s position regarding Ademola Lookman’s future, saying that although the Nigerian player is not formally for sale, the team is open to considering serious transfer proposals.
In an interview with Italian reporters, Percassi stated that Atalanta greatly appreciates Lookman’s contribution, particularly after his valiant hat trick in the UEFA Europa League final that earned the team their first-ever European victory. However, he also admitted that football is a business and that every player has a cost.
“Ademola is a player who made history with us. He’s important to our team. But if an offer comes in that reflects his true value and fits with the club’s vision, we will consider it,” said Percassi.
This declaration essentially allows interested teams to start talks, especially those in the Premier League, where Lookman has played for Leicester City and Everton in the past. It is also thought that German and Saudi clubs are keeping a careful eye on him.
Atalanta is not under any pressure to sell, even in the face of transfer interest. Lookman’s contract is still in effect for several years, and the team is building on Gian Piero Gasperini’s success from the previous season. Any transfer would probably come with a hefty price tag, estimated to be between €40 and €50 million.
Ademola Lookman, 26, was a key member of Atalanta’s high-intensity attack and scored 15 goals in all competitions in the previous season. After his spectacular hat trick in the Europa League final, where he dismantled an undefeated Bayer Leverkusen, his reputation skyrocketed.
