Nigeria’s former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on citizens to embrace unity and compassion as the nation celebrates Christmas 2025, urging Nigerians to look beyond festivities and focus on healing the country’s divisions.
In his Christmas message on X Thursday, Atiku extended greetings to all Nigerians, particularly Christian communities, while emphasizing that the season offers more than just an occasion for celebration.
“Christmas is a solemn reminder of the virtues of love, sacrifice, forgiveness, and compassion; values that Nigeria urgently needs at this moment in its history,” the former vice president said.
Atiku, who has remained an influential voice in Nigerian politics, used the occasion to highlight what he described as critical challenges facing the nation, calling for introspection during the holiday period.
“This season also calls us to rise above division and embrace one another in love. It is a season that invites us to heal old wounds, to forgive, and to recommit ourselves to the unity and common destiny of our nation,” he stated.
The former vice president encouraged Nigerians to approach the Christmas season with deeper spiritual reflection rather than focusing solely on celebrations.
“I urge Nigerians to use the season not merely for celebration, but for quiet reflection and prayer, seeking divine guidance for peace, justice, and renewed hope for the country,” Atiku said.
News.ng reports that his message comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with various socio-economic and security challenges, making his call for national unity particularly resonant during the festive season.
