Spanish powerhouse Atlético Madrid and Italian giants Inter Milan are actively vying for Nigerian international Ademola Lookman’s signature from Atalanta, placing him at the centre of a developing transfer battle.

Both teams are looking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the upcoming season, and the prolific winger has become a top target due to his outstanding performances.

Despite Atlético Madrid recently securing a deal for talented Argentine playmaker Thiago Almada, they remain highly interested in signing Lookman.

According to sources familiar with the discussions, Atlético head coach Diego Simeone is a big admirer of Lookman and believes his pace, directness, and versatility across the front line make him an ideal fit for the team’s tactical system.

Contacts between Atlético and Atalanta have reportedly resumed in recent days. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Spanish club is still seeking clarity on the final price.

“Atlético Madrid remain keen on signing Ademola Lookman in case of more exits. Contacts took place in recent days again, even after the Thiago Almada deal, waiting for more clarity on final pricing,” Romano wrote on his official X page (formerly Twitter).

Reports indicate Atlético Madrid is considering leveraging its current relationship with Atalanta—established during negotiations for defender Matteo Ruggeri—to facilitate Lookman’s potential signing.

Meanwhile, Corriere dello Sport has reported that Inter Milan has formally joined the race. After acquiring Ange Yoan Bonny, the Nerazzurri are seeking further offensive reinforcements, particularly in light of Marko Arnautović’s departure and the rumoured exit of Mehdi Taremi.

Lookman is reportedly viewed as a “dream” target by Inter’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, while the Atalanta winger is said to be “excited” about the possibility of taking the next step in his career at the San Siro.
