Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has met with Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok on the sidelines of the 7th African Union–European Union Summit in Luanda, Angola, as part of efforts to deepen Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic ties in Europe.
The meeting, confirmed by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), forms part of Nigeria’s strategic engagements at the high-level gathering where leaders are deliberating on peace, security, governance, and multilateral cooperation.
According to Nkwocha, “Vice President Kashim Shettima has held bilateral discussions with Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok at the 7th African Union-European Union Summit in Angola.”
He explained that the session, held on the margins of the summit, focused on broadening collaboration between the countries.
“The meeting between the Vice President and the Hungarian leader took place on the sidelines of the summit in Luanda, where leaders from both unions are addressing issues of peace, security, governance, and multilateralism,” he said.
Discussions centred on expanding Nigeria–Hungary cooperation across key sectors such as trade, investment, technological innovation, and educational development.
Nkwocha added that, “The talks explored opportunities for enhanced Nigeria-Hungary cooperation in areas including trade, investment, technology transfer, and educational exchanges. The engagement with President Sulyok is part of Vice President Shettima’s diplomatic outreach at the AU-EU gathering, where he is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Shettima is leading Nigeria’s delegation at the summit, which brings together heads of government and senior officials from Africa and Europe to strengthen partnerships and address shared global challenges.
