Spanish La Liga side Barcelona have joined the race to acquire the services of Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi from English Premier League side Leicester City.
This was made known in a report published by Sport, which revealed that the Spanish club is considering the acquisition of the player whose time at the King Power Stadium is about to elapse.
In its report, the outlet also stated that Barcelona’s interest demonstrates the rising demand for Ndidi’s skill set, especially given the Catalan giants’ desire to bolster their midfield alternatives.
This comes weeks after Spanish publication Fichajes reported that West Ham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United have all shown a strong desire to sign Ndidi as a free agent.

Ndidi is seen by Newcastle as a useful addition to their team as they look to strengthen their midfield options, especially in light of recent injuries and bans that have affected their starting lineup.
This season, injuries plagued the Magpies, and Sandro Tonali’s ban left Eddie Howe with fewer alternatives in midfield, which fueled his desire to have Ndidi as a backup midfielder.
Ndidi, along with targets like Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly, is an alluring potential for the Magpies, who are looking at all options to bolster their squad next season.
The player’s desire to play for a Premier League top-six team, meanwhile, would make things more difficult for Newcastle, as fourth-place Aston Villa—who will probably make it to Europe—now has an advantage in the fight to recruit him.
