Former Bundesliga champion Bayer Leverkusen is said to have joined the growing number of teams interested in signing Wilfred Ndidi, a midfielder for the Super Eagles, from Leicester City.
It is generally anticipated that the 28-year-old Nigerian international will depart Leicester City this summer after the Foxes were relegated from the English Premier League.
Ndidi has a £9 million (€10.4 million) release clause in his contract, which makes him a desirable and cheap target for a number of elite teams throughout Europe, according to a number of sources, including those from Daily Post Nigeria and transfer expert Ben Jacobs.
The interest from Bayer Leverkusen coincides with speculation that they would be searching for a defensive midfield replacement due to the future of Granit Xhaka, their midfield player.
Ndidi would be an asset to Xabi Alonso’s team due to his demonstrated ability as a ball-winning midfielder and his years of experience playing in the top division.
Other well-known teams from all across Europe have also expressed interest in Ndidi’s possible transfer from Leicester City.
According to reports, Everton and two other Premier League clubs have approached him, and Manchester United has had discussions with his representatives.
Internationally, other elite teams like Spanish club Real Betis, the Italian side Juventus, and Saudi Arabian clubs are reportedly interested in hiring him as a player.
