After spending nearly eight months in a Nigerian jail, Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan has been released, with the charges of money laundering against him officially dropped.

The regional head of Binance, Kyrylo Khomiakov, took to social media to express deep gratitude to the Nigerian government for Gambaryan’s release, while also highlighting the challenges the executive faced during his imprisonment.

Gambaryan, who was detained in February 2024 during a diplomatic visit to Nigeria, had endured a prolonged legal ordeal that drew widespread international attention.

Throughout his detention, concerns about his health grew as he appeared in distress during court appearances.

A viral video even showed him limping into court, which sparked further outrage from the public and pressure from global lawmakers.

The U.S. and other international voices, including prominent figures in the blockchain community, had called for Gambaryan’s release for months.

Many believe this external pressure played a significant role in Nigeria’s decision to drop the charges and allow him to return home.

In his statement, Khomiakov praised Gambaryan for his resilience during this challenging period, saying, “Tigran showed immense strength throughout his ordeal, and we are relieved he can now receive the care he needs and reunite with his family.”

He also stated that Binance remains committed to ensuring compliance and transparency, particularly in light of this situation, and is eager to work with regulators globally.

Despite the controversy, Khomiakov remains optimistic about Nigeria’s potential in the blockchain space.

He stated that Binance aims to contribute to the country’s growing blockchain industry, acknowledging Nigeria’s importance as a key player in the future of digital assets.
