Tigran Gambaryan, an executive at Binance Holdings Limited, arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday in a wheelchair.
He faces charges of money laundering along with the cryptocurrency company.
Dressed in a black T-shirt and blue jeans, Gambaryan managed to stand and walk slowly to the dock when the case was called.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) lawyer, Ogechi Ujam, informed the court that the lead counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, was unavailable.
Ujam requested a delay, which was not opposed by the defence attorneys, Babatunde Fagbohunlu and Mark Mordi.
Justice Emeka Nwite agreed to postpone the session until noon.
Earlier, on July 5, Justice Nwite had ordered the Nigerian Correctional Service to provide Gambaryan’s medical certificate by July 16.
This followed an application from Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mordi, who argued that the prison’s medical doctor had not complied with a previous court order to release the report.
Gambaryan’s health has been a concern since he collapsed in court on May 23. His defence team has warned that his health continues to deteriorate in Kuje Correctional Centre, raising fears for his well-being.
