Bluecode, an Austrian payment brand, and Alipay+ have forged a strategic alliance that will allow Bluecode customers to make payments at any of the supported merchants around Europe.
Pietro Candela, General Manager of Europe at Alipay+, confirmed that partnership as the two firms team up in preparation for UEFA EURO 2024.
Bluecode is an open QR code payment system available in Europe.
Alipay+ is a suite of cross-border mobile payment and digitalization technology products run by Ant International, it is the first interoperable payment network partner in Europe.
Issuers can incorporate Bluecode into their main banking systems and apps. Customers can then easily make payments using QR codes straight from their current accounts.
According to the details in the news release, Bluecode’s partnership with Alipay+ enables its users to make payments at all of Alipay+’s local stores using Bluecode-enabled applications.
The service will be extended to non-European nations following its first introduction, to assist European tourists by enabling them to make payments at international Alipay+ businesses.
“This partnership enables Alipay+ merchants all over the world to accept payments from European travellers, who will find more convenience and benefits. Alipay+ merchants will benefit from the partnership to connect and engage with more European customers, before, during and after their travels.
“This is enabled by an eco-system of local financial apps. UEFA EURO 2024 is the perfect time to kick off this new mobile customer engagement,” Candela stated.
Christian Pirkner, Bluecode CEO while reacting to the partnership, expressed optimism.
He said: “We are firm believers in the importance of mobile payment innovation without boundaries for Europe. Bluecode scheme rules enable Europeans at participating banks to transact directly from their checking accounts.
