After a Supreme Court’s order, X is currently prohibited in Brazil.

As a result, a growing number of Brazilians have turned to Bluesky, an alternative social network.

Bluesky’s rapid growth is on the rise, especially given that it switched from an invite-only app to open public access in February.

According to its official website, by May 2024, the platform will have achieved 6 million active members.

The microblogging network stated late Friday that it was seeing “all-time highs” in activity, with 500,000 new members joining in the preceding two days.

It’s also number one on the free iPhone app chart in Brazil today, slightly ahead of Meta’s Threads, which is number two.

Elon Musk’s X is facing legal challenges in Brazil because it refuses to block accounts tied to political disinformation.

After X missed a deadline to hire a local legal counsel, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered the platform’s immediate suspension.

Moraes also cautioned that using VPNs to circumvent the restriction could result in daily fines of 50,000 reais ($8,900).

Musk responded by calling the action an infringement on free expression. As the ban approached, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva urged his X followers to his other social media accounts, which included Bluesky.

Bluesky CEO Jay Graber noted the rankings and remarked, “Good job Brazil, you made the right choice.”

According to reports, approximately 10% of Brazil’s 210 million citizens utilise X.

“Brazil, you’re setting new all-time highs for activity on Bluesky!” the official Bluesky account said in a post.

“There will almost certainly be some outages and performance issues,” Bluesky developer Paul Frazee said. “We’ve never seen traffic like this. Hang with us!”

We earlier reported that Telegram is currently under investigation in India following the recent arrest of its co-founder Pavel Durov in France.
