A boat believed to have been carrying 22 passengers, capsized on Monday afternoon in the waters of Yauri, Agwara, Kebbi, according to a survivor.
The incident, which was reported to the director general of the Niger state emergency management agency (NSEMA) by a report received between 11 am and 12 pm, is believed to have been caused by water hyacinth and strong waves.
A survivor said the boat was carrying 22 passengers when it capsized, but no passengers have yet been recovered.
The incident occurred on Yauri’s market day, and families will only be able to report their missing relatives after the market has closed.
