Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), categorically condemned the latest attack on the Ngoshe community in Borno State.

News.ng reports that suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters attacked the 82 Division Task Force Battalion and an IDP camp in Gwoza, Borno State, on Wednesday night around 7:30 p.m., killing at least nine soldiers, the chief imam, and other civilians while abducting more than 100 women and children.

Obi, in a post on his X account on Friday and monitored by this medium, described the incident as a leadership failure.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have learned of yet another horrific attack yesterday by terrorists on the community of Ngoshe in Borno State, which targeted not only a military base but also an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp, and sadly claimed the lives of innocent civilians and soldiers, many of whom are still missing.

“I watched several videos of this tragedy with deep horror. Once again, we are confronted with the painful reality of the daily suffering that far too many Nigerians are forced to endure. This is unacceptable,” he stated.

In his criticism of the current administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the former Anambra State Governor between 2007 and 2014 questioned how long citizens would continue to suffer and pay the price for bad leadership and mismanagement.

“How long will Nigerians continue to bear the consequences of poor leadership and mismanagement? How many more lives must be lost before decisive action is taken to secure our communities, protect the vulnerable, and dismantle the structures of these insurgents?” he lamented.

Obi, who served as Governor of Anambra State on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022 and later moving to the Labour Party that same year, and finally pitching his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2025, lambasted political office holders for shifting their focus from the socio-economic ills in the country to policies that have consequently led to the deterioration of the security situation.

“While Nigerians are slaughtered daily by terrorists, what is more troubling is that amid these daily killings, our political leaders are preoccupied with selfish scheming on how to steal, grab and run away with the next election cycle, and keep us in insecurity, poverty and underdevelopment,” Obi said.

In his conclusion, the 64-year-old businessman and politician called on the country’s leadership to make the safety of lives and property their utmost priority.

“To the families who have lost loved ones, to the children now displaced, and to the communities living in fear, I stand with you in grief and in resolve. Your pain is Nigeria’s pain. Your safety and dignity must be the priority of any government that claims to serve the people.

“Nigeria deserves a leadership that values human life above all else. Our nation is stronger than the terror that threatens it. But we cannot remain silent, and we cannot accept inaction. We must act now, for today’s victims, for tomorrow’s children, and for the Nigeria we all deserve,” he added.
