Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, today, supervised the distribution of essential food items and agricultural inputs to over 35,000 male heads of households in Monguno Local Government Area.
Each beneficiary received a 25kg bag of rice and cowpeas to support their farming activities.
Governor Zulum highlighted that the rice was part of a federal government donation consisting of 20 trucks aimed at alleviating the hardships caused by rising food prices.
“We are in Monguno town mainly for two functions. First, to distribute food items provided by the federal government. We received 20 trucks of rice, which we distributed to this community,” Zulum stated.
He also noted that agricultural inputs, including seeds and cowpeas, were provided to aid local farmers.
Additionally, the federal government has supplied 90 trucks of fertilizer to the state government for distribution to farmers, as announced by Governor Zulum.
In a separate initiative, Governor Zulum distributed over N450 million to 45,000 widows and vulnerable women in Monguno. Each recipient received N10,000 in cash support and a wrapper.
The governor emphasized that the palliatives were intended to support families affected by the ongoing Boko Haram crisis, rather than creating dependency.
Governor Zulum expressed his gratitude to the federal government for their support, stating, “On behalf of the people of Borno State, I want to appreciate the federal government for this laudable gesture.”
Meanwhile, in Anambra, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has inaugurated a major distribution initiative for cash crop seedlings across the southeast state.
The program, designed to bolster environmental sustainability and economic growth, aims to distribute 1.04 million seedlings through the state’s 326 political wards via the Umunna system.
The governor described the initiative as a strategic move to create a new industrial ecosystem, likening it to the next phase of economic development similar to the role of oil in the past.
