Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo could be at the centre of one of January’s biggest transfer battles after it emerged that his new contract includes a £65m release clause, BBC Sport has learned.
The clause—active only during the first two weeks of the 2026 winter transfer window—gives interested clubs a narrow window to secure the Ghanaian international, while allowing Bournemouth enough time to find a replacement.
Semenyo signed a new five-year deal at the Vitality Stadium on 1 July after attracting strong interest from Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and other Premier League sides last summer. Despite committing his future to Bournemouth, clubs have continued to closely monitor his progress.
The 25-year-old has been in outstanding form this season under Andoni Iraola, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 11 Premier League appearances. His output builds on a breakthrough last campaign, where he delivered 11 league goals and 13 in all competitions—the best return of his career.
The winter transfer window opens on Thursday, 1 January 2026, and closes at 19:00 GMT on Monday, 1 February 2026. With Semenyo’s clause only active in the first half of the window, potential suitors will need to move quickly if they hope to lure one of Bournemouth’s most influential performers away from the south coast.
