President Muhammadu Buhari has unveiled the redesigned N100, N200 and N500 naira notes.
The unveiling of the new naira notes took place at the Federal Executive Camber of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa on Wednesday, November 23.
This is coming days ahead of the planned unveiling and release date of December 15, 2022, earlier given by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Addressing journalists on Monday, November 22, Godwin Emefiele, the CBN governor, said the new date would afford Nigerians in all parts of the country to deposit the old notes before January 31, 2023.
“100 days is enough for any person from any part of Nigeria to deposit his money in the bank and get his money when the new notes are released. We are no longer waiting till December 15th to unveil and begin to release the new notes,” he said.
Emefiele noted that the new notes have security features that would prevent them from being counterfeited.
If you follow due process to check the authenticity of a currency and take them through the UV (ultraviolet) light, you will find that this currency cannot be counterfeited. The best you will find is photocopies,” he added
