In November, TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, plans to discontinue TikTok Music, its short-lived music streaming service.
The platform, which was launched just over a year ago in July 2023, made its debut in Indonesia and Brazil as part of the company’s drive to expand its TikTok empire into music streaming.
TikTok Music launched in India in late 2019 under the moniker “Resso”, coinciding with TikTok’s rapid growth in the country.
Last year, TikTok rebranded Resso “TikTok Music” (which may have resulted in its prohibition in India) and relaunched it in Brazil and Indonesia. As part of a closed beta test, access was expanded to chosen people in Australia, Mexico, and Singapore.
TikTok has confirmed that TikTok Music will be shut off worldwide on November 28.
This will imply the end of TikTok Music in the five regions where the app is now available: Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, and Mexico.
TikTok has announced that it will now focus its attention on its ‘Add To Music App’ function, which allows TikTok users to store music tracks found on the video site to playlists on their choice music audio streaming service.
“We are sorry to inform you that TikTok Music will be closing on 28 November 2024,” a notice on TikTok Music’s website reads.
TikTok stated that subscribers can continue using the service until November 28, when subscriptions would be automatically cancelled.
Newsng gathered that users wishing to transfer their playlists to other streaming services must do so by October 28, and refund requests must be made by November 28.
We earlier reported that TikTok is integrating group conversations onto its platform, a move that appears to be an attempt to compete with well-known messaging services like Apple’s Messages and Meta’s WhatsApp.
