The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced fresh details for the highly anticipated 2025 CAF Awards, set to take place in Rabat, Morocco, on Wednesday, November 19, beginning at 7:00 p.m. local time (18:00 GMT).
The annual ceremony will once again celebrate Africa’s best footballers, coaches, and teams who have excelled for club and country over the past year.
Nigeria will enjoy strong representation in Rabat, with Victor Osimhen, Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Stanley Nwabali, Daniel Bameyi, Shakirat Moshood, Justine Madugu, and Bankole Olowookere all shortlisted across various categories.
Osimhen, fresh from a prolific season with Galatasaray, is looking to reclaim the CAF African Player of the Year title he won in 2023. He faces stiff competition from Mohamed Salah (Egypt/Liverpool), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/PSG), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea/Borussia Dortmund), Denis Bouanga (Gabon/LAFC), and Zambo Anguissa (Cameroon/Napoli), among others.
In the women’s category, Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo are among the favourites for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, following strong performances for both club and country. The 2024 award was claimed by Zambia’s Barbra Banda.
Chiamaka Nnadozie, Nigeria’s number-one shot-stopper, is eyeing a third consecutive Best Goalkeeper (Women) award after another standout season with Paris FC/Brighton and the Super Falcons.
On the men’s side, Stanley Nwabali is a leading contender for Goalkeeper of the Year, while Daniel Bameyi and Shakirat Moshood have been nominated for Young Player of the Year in their respective categories.
Nigeria’s presence extends to the technical area, with Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu and Flamingos coach Bankole Olowookere both shortlisted for CAF Women’s Coach of the Year.
