Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has expressed strong confidence ahead of Nigeria’s Group C clash with Tunisia at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting the team has what it takes to secure victory against the North Africans.
Nigeria and Tunisia are set to face off on Saturday in one of the most anticipated fixtures of the group stage. The match will take place at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, with both sides aiming to strengthen their bid for qualification to the knockout rounds.
The Carthage Eagles hold recent bragging rights, having edged Nigeria 1–0 the last time both teams met at AFCON, a Round of 16 encounter at the 2021 edition of the tournament. That result has added an extra edge to the upcoming showdown.
Tunisia comes into the match in good form after an impressive 3–1 victory over Uganda’s Cranes in their opening group game, a performance that underlined their attacking threat and tactical discipline under Hatem Trabelsi.
Despite acknowledging Tunisia’s strength, Bassey remains upbeat about Nigeria’s chances. The Fulham defender said the Super Eagles are prepared for a tough contest but possess enough quality across the squad to rise to the challenge.
“Tunisia is a good team, and we should expect a difficult game, but we have enough quality to win it,” Bassey said.
The Group C encounter is scheduled to kick off at 9pm Nigerian time, with fans expecting a fiercely contested match as both teams battle for a crucial result in Fès.
