The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is gearing up for its first Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting under the leadership of Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, who assumed office as CBN Governor on October 5, 2023.
In preparation for the February 26 and 27, 2024 meeting, the CBN has conducted a two-day strategic session for MPC members.
Acting Director of the Corporate Communications Department, Mrs Hakama Sidi Ali, confirmed the strategic session in Abuja on Friday, stating that it aimed to facilitate in-depth discussions and brainstorming about the committee’s objectives.
She said the retreat focused on critical areas, including deliberations on a strategic plan to enhance monetary policy transmission mechanism improvements.
Former MPC members facilitated the sessions, monetary policy communication specialists from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Directors of Departments crucial to the MPC process.
Mrs Hakama Sidi Ali noted that the valuable insights gained from these discussions would significantly contribute to the robustness of the upcoming MPC meetings.
The CBN has published a calendar of MPC meetings for 2024 on its website, indicating scheduled meetings in February, March, May, July, September, and November 2024.
The last MPC meeting was held on July 24 and 25, 2023, making the upcoming meeting the first under Governor Olayemi Cardoso’s leadership.
