Nigerian international Terem Moffi and Ivorian winger Jérémie Boga were violently confronted by a group of enraged Nice supporters following the club’s 3–1 loss to Lorient on Sunday.
The defeat—Nice’s sixth across all competitions—triggered intense frustration among sections of the fanbase. According to French journalists Fabrice Hawkins and Maxime Tilliette, players were warned while returning from the airport that the atmosphere at the training centre would be hostile.
When the team arrived, an estimated 400 supporters had gathered outside the club’s facility. Tensions quickly escalated, with Moffi and Boga reportedly spat on, kicked, punched, and verbally assaulted. The abuse also included alleged racist insults directed at the players.
The anger toward Moffi intensified after he was seen sharing a light moment with ex-Lorient president Loïc Féry following the match—a gesture some fans interpreted as disrespectful.
In the aftermath of the attack, Moffi underwent a medical evaluation on Monday. Due to the physical and emotional toll of the assault, he has been placed on sick leave until Sunday.
The violent incident involving both players has sparked outrage across French football, with calls for investigations and stronger protections for footballers.
