OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, announced that technical difficulties would cause it to postpone the deployment of its “Voice Mode” feature by a month, until July.
Along with its most recent GPT-4o model, the artificial intelligence (AI) company unveiled the functionality during last month’s Spring Updates event.
It is now planned for OpenAI to begin alpha testing the speech mode next month.
The firm withheld information on other technologies that were showcased during the event, like its chatbot’s ability to process videos in real-time and share screens.
“We had planned to start rolling this out in alpha to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users in late June, but need one more month to reach our bar to launch,” the artificial intelligence (AI) company said in a post on Twitter.
The company intends to test the feature with a small group of users before launching it widely this autumn, subject to safety and reliability inspections.
In May, OpenAI introduced GPT-4o, a model capable of carrying out realistic speech interactions.
OpenAI further stated that, under their iterative deployment strategy, the firm would launch the alpha phase with a small set of users to gather feedback before expanding depending on our findings.
“We intend for all Plus users to access it by the fall, although the exact schedule will depend on achieving our strict safety and reliability standards.
“Additionally, we are developing the new video and screen-sharing features we demonstrated separately and will keep you informed on the timeline,” added the tech giant.
OpenAI’s GPT-4o aims to capitalise on this trend by offering improved usability and processing performance.
The company said that this new model can hold real-time discussions and reply to consumer queries and requests without any visible latency.
