Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez has publicly apologised to fans following the Blues’ 2-1 defeat against Manchester United in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
The Spaniard came under scrutiny after he picked up a red card for tackling Bryan Mbeumo during Saturday’s EPL encounter against Manchester United, capping off a frustrating night for Enzo Maresca’s side.
Despite a spirited performance in spells, Chelsea failed to level the scores, even though Man United player Casemiro also got a red card in the keenly contested encounter.
Sánchez took to his official social media account after the final whistle to acknowledge his mistake and reassure supporters ahead of upcoming EPL games.
He said: “On me today guys, big sorry for that, team put a massive effort on the second half but couldn’t get there.”
The defeat adds to Chelsea’s turbulent start to the season, marked by inconsistency in front of goal and defensive lapses. For Sánchez, the challenge will now be to regain confidence quickly, with crucial fixtures on the horizon.
Chelsea’s next match sees them face a tricky test against Aston Villa, and fans will be hoping both the goalkeeper and the team can bounce back from yet another setback.
