Conor Gallagher is set to join Tottenham Hotspur after informing Atlético Madrid of his decision to complete a move to north London, in what is shaping up to be one of the summer’s notable Premier League transfers.

Spurs have agreed to pay a €40 million fee to secure the midfielder on a permanent deal, moving swiftly to finalise terms and beat off late competition from domestic rivals.

Aston Villa had earlier reached an agreement with Atlético Madrid on Tuesday and were hopeful of pushing the deal through. However, the Midlands club ultimately pulled out after Gallagher declined to give his final approval.

The England international’s preference for Tottenham proved decisive, with the player making it clear that a switch to Spurs was his chosen next step.

Gallagher is expected to add intensity, pressing, and box-to-box energy to Tottenham’s midfield — qualities that align closely with Ange Postecoglou’s high-tempo style of play.

With personal terms now being finalised, the move is entering its closing stages, and Gallagher is expected to complete his transfer and be announced as a Tottenham player in the coming days.
