During the recent COP28 summit, the federal government signed a contract for the installation of a 1 Gigawatt solar power plant.
The Federal Government said it has signed the contract in its efforts to provide sustainable energy for its citizens.
The infrastructural cooperation [INFRACORP] signed the contract with Netherlands Solarge BV and Infrastructure Bank.
INFRACORP senior representative explained that the contract was meant to expand and develop the country’s economy to a trillion dollars, as well as provide sustainable infrastructure.
In a statement, the representative added that the corporation’s projects focus on resilient infrastructure, green manufacturing, renewable energy production and local manufacturing.
Also, the Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu explained that signing the agreement was ideal due to the current energy transmission problems, and low capacity of energy production among others preventing higher energy production.
Nigerian Industry, Trade and Investment (ITI) Minister, Dr. Dirisu Uzoka Anite, has stressed the need for adequate energy supply for the country to reach its full potential and a sustainable future.
He added that the Federal government is fully committed to delivering on its promises. “We are aware of the immense pressure on our nation’s electrical grid, which continues to cause power outages affecting the lives of our people, in homes, schools and hospitals, as well as businesses of all sizes,” he said.
“Renewable energy is not only a future dream, but a current necessity.”
The Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr Olamide Edun, commended the Infrastructural for securing a Solar PV Manufacturing Plant in Nigeria, noting that the available data indicates that the market size of solar PV in Nigeria and West Africa is substantial.
Edun added that the installation of a solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Nigeria will have a positive impact on various socio-economic sectors.
